Angamali is enriched with cultural and devotional centres. Majority of the population are Christians (Major denominations are Roman Catholic and Jacobite Syrians . A small branch of Chalakkudy river flows through Angamali which is leading to Maanjaali. Once upon a time this was considered to be a major trade centre. The name itself is "Angadikadavu". Another major fact about Angamali is that it is the nearest town to the Cochin International Airport. Metro City Kochi is 34 km and Cultural City Thrissur is 45 km from this town.

Manjaly thodu which was earlier a river is getting developed along with the proposed National Waterway.

Geography

Angamaly is located at 10°12′N 76°24′E / 10.2°N 76.4°E / 10.2; 76.4.[1] It has an average elevation of 31 metres (104 feet).

Demographics

As of 2001[update] India census,[2] Angamaly had a population of 33,424. Males constitute 49% of the population and females 51%. Angamaly has an average literacy rate of 84%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with 50% of the males and 50% of females literate. 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.

 Politics

Angamali assembly constituency is part of Chalakudy (Lok Sabha constituency)

Angamaly Fest is a shopping, entertainment, and cultural tourism event . The annual event has been developed to highlight the dynamic and growing retail sector of Angamaly which currently is considered as the gate way of Cochin international airport .

Angamaly Fest offering visitors unique and attractive shopping experience , and promotional specials, the Angamaly Fest also seeks to highlight Angamaly as a noteworthy economical and cultural destination in God’s own country, particularly in the area of cultural and eco-tourism, and to promote local tourism

Lastly, it is envisioned that the Angamaly fest 2009 will be a one of the many legacy events, initiatives and activities that have been launched to coincide with the Christmas and New year celebrations.
